Go-Ride integrates club development, youth participation, coaching activities and talent identification programmes for young people into one single programme.

This supports the creation of a network of school and community based cycling clubs that are trained, resourced and skilled to meet the challenge of integrating young people into a recognised club structure. Go-Ride facilitates the delivery of school and community based cycling opportunities for young people and the development of local partnerships with a shared vision of "more young people, more active, more often" in cycling. The success of Go-Ride is dependent upon a partnership between MTN Club100, clubs, schools, local authorities, voluntary organisations and commercial operators throughout South Africa

Ride fast, ride smart, be a MTN Academy Cyclist!

Is any goal—in cycling or life—too high? Not if you're Team MTN. Made up of exceptional young people who have demonstrated an ability to think past individual accomplishments and embrace the team concept, Team MTN develops incredible cyclists, but even more impressive people.

MTN Academy is a non-profit community based youth bicycling organization. Our Mission is to develop elite bicyclists from beginners. Riders of the MTN Cycling Academy range between 10-18 years old. We help move them through the different stages during development as junior cyclists by bringing them many resources including equipment, coaching and technical advice. MTN Cycling Academy also teaches the rules and etiquette of cycling to help create good ambassadors for our sport as well as good community members.

The MTN Academy was developed as a system to identify, recruit and develop cyclists from a small demographic region, give them resources and experience to move to higher levels of the sport. Since its inception, a guiding principle within MTN Academy has been to contribute positively and significantly to cycling in South Africa It has been a central philosophy of MTN Academy that the overall success of South Africa cycling depends upon widespread opportunities for young cyclists. The support of our local cycling community is key to helping more young people experience the benefits offered by MTN Cycling Academy. We want to bring you fast, smart, MTN riders to your communities and cycling clubs.

MTN Cycling Academy
Junior Development Programme

The Junior Development Programme aims to give each Junior rider an opportunity to compete at national level, to prepare prospective elite riders for competition at International level, and to develop the best available teams to represent the MTN Academy at National and International events. The Programme also aims to promote the transition for U-16 to Junior level, and from Junior to U-23 level. For enquires, please contact the MTN Academy Manager, Marius Dobson.

The selection of National Junior Teams, and the preparation and conduct of Junior riders involved in the Junior Development Programme, will be based on the following:

• Performance: this will be especially judged at selected races during the course of the year – these will announced in due course
• Commitment: this is expected at all events – the National Manager will be observing races and will have representatives observing all races on the Club 100 calendar which he cannot attend
• Discipline: it is expected that riders aspiring to be on national teams will observe appropriate discipline in all matters, ranging from their own training and preparation to behaviour at events
• Strategy: riders will be expected to be able to ride strategically, especially when under the direction of the National Manager
• Availability: while there will be allowance for exams, illness etc, riders are expected to be available to ride on national teams or panels. Prospective riders must let the National Manager know when they are unavailable as soon as they are aware of dates
• Health: prospective national riders must inform the National Manager if they are on medication, or expect to be on medication, prior to events where national teams or panels are involved
• Non-interference: no interference is expected from club or personal coaches, or from parents or others, in relation to the selection of teams or while riders are under the direction of the National Manager at events.
